Talofa Lava!

This week our school celebrated Vaiaso o le Gagana  Sāmoa - Samoa Language Week. The theme for this year was: ‘Lalaga le si’osi’omaga mo se lumana’i manuia’ - ‘Weave an environment for a better future’.  Our talented Kaitiaki Tauva Kaleopa and her son Mike taught some language lessons and culture lessons throughout the week and today our morning assembly culminated in a presentation of their new skills and knowledge. Room 2 shared a Sasa and artwork. Room 1 performed a dance and shared their Tapa designs. I was very proud to see all of our students embracing Samoan culture. It was particularly special to see our six students who identify as Samoan, learning, modelling, and taking on a leadership role.

We also have a new gardening club where students have designated spots where they are responsible for planning and designing the upgrade of these spaces. The first garden is being overseen by TJ Haimona and Lyric Roma. The boys are in the initial planning phase so I will keep you updated on their progress.

Thank you to those parents who nominated parents and community members during our recent BOT elections. We are happy to announce Barry Batley and Lynette Poki will join our BOT. Current members include Murray Paterson, Wayne Fraser, Tauva Kaleopa and our staff rep is Dannielle Williams. We meet every 2nd Tuesday of the month. If you would like to find out more information regarding BOT meeting or what a BOT entails please see Erika Batley in the front office.

On the 6th of June 2019, Waikato West Police staff will be holding a meeting in our community. This is a chance for us to listen to what our communities want from Police. We want to hear your thoughts, views and ideas on what Police can do and how you can play a part in making our community a safe place for whanau and friends.

WHEN: Thursday the 6th of June 2019 from 6pm

WHERE: Benneydale Primary School

Have a relaxing long weekend. See you all Tuesday!
